The Strange Value of the Internet Bible - What is apparent is that there are clearly more advantages than disadvantages. So, just as I have always been an advocate of translation, though my endorsements of modern translations are few, so I am an advocate of the Bible on iPhone.

The War on Christians - According to the International Society for Human Rights, a secular observatory based in Frankfurt, Germany, 80 per cent of all acts of religious discrimination in the world today are directed at Christians. Statistically speaking, that makes Christians by far the most persecuted religious body on the planet.

Boldness - The third mark of the effective personal evangelist is boldness. We often struggle with a righteous straightforwardness, a loving clearness, a holy bluntness. Some parents are afraid to tell the gospel to their own children because they fear their reaction, are concerned that they might not like it and might turn from it. But what of the risk of not speaking?

8 Levels of the Interpretation of Gen 3:15 - Such, then, is the gospel theology here revealed, in germ, through the very terms of the curse pronounced upon the destroyer of the race.

Despite Doubt - A new book by Mike Witter dealing with doubts in the Christian life.

6 Lessons I Learned as a Rookie Pastor - My first year of pastoral ministry was like being dropped into a battlefield that I’d only read about. Yet, there I was, in the midst of the destruction of sin and the brutality of a world following the enemy, trying to discern what it actually looked like to be in the trenches, pastoring the people of God. It was terrifying. After a year in the battle, here are six lessons that I learned as a rookie pastor.

Me-ness or Meekness - Meekness is the opposite of me-ness. It is putting others first, second and third, and yourself last. And it is putting God above everyone. “But if I do that, everyone else will get everything and I’ll be left with nothing.” Well, yes, it might mean we lose out a bit in this sinful, temporary world. But Jesus’ promise means that we will inherit the perfect, eternal world. That’s where faith comes in.

Christian News from Around the World (18/10)

25 year old Teenager - There’s nothing wrong with being childish—providing you are a child. But when you are an adult who is childish there’s a serious problem. Paul speaks of this in 1 Corinthians 13:11, writing, “When I was a child, I spoke like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I gave up childish ways.” It’s cute when a mom tucks a 2.5-year-old toddler into bed and cuts the crust off their sandwiches. Not so much when the kid is 25.

The Changing Face of Seminary Education - The M.Div. shows no signs of passing from existence, but clearly there are movements afoot to broaden the range of seminary options available for students.

The Death of Arius - In case his name doesn’t sound familiar, Arius was a famous fourth-century false teacher who taught that the Son of God was a created being.
